Dream a Little Dream...

You know how some people say that you have dreams based on what you've been thinking about the most? Well, last night, I had a dream that I was talking to the Mulleavy sisters. And it was so realistic! I grew up in Santa Cruz - where they grew up, too - and their SP2011 collection really hit home (literally). It was beautiful and so true to Northern California. Then, I saw their Fall2011 runway; I instantly thought, My Antonia! Ever since I read the famous novel by Willa Cather I've been wanting to go to those plains in Nebraska, to see the long grasses sway in the wind like waves rolling in the ocean. In the dream, I talked to them about their latest collection and they promised me that they would send me the blue gown with those grasses adorning the bottom. It has been quite a while since I've had such a good dream.

Patterns Away!

Whether bright and exciting or dark and complex, many designers at London Fashion Week presented patterns, patterns, patterns. Here are my favorites.
  • This Oriental-inspired frock by Mary Katrantzou (left). The shape of the skirt and the koi fish printed on it reminds me of a fishbowl. The colors are bright and bold, but still remind me of fall.
  • The Holly Fulton show was full of mirrored images, but this dress (right) really stuck out to me. I love the light and dark colors. And, the hands shooting what almost looks like water turning into flower blossoms is truly unique.
  • The pixelated patterns at Louise Gray (bottom right) brought a kind of freshness to classic patterns - like the plaid skirt here. Tons of color blocking and those balloon headpieces left me wanting more!
